A key component of the microscope’s mechanical maintenance is ensuring that all moving parts are regularly cleaned and lubricated. 

This allows each joint to manoeuvre smoothly through procedures. 

Surfaces in regular need of lubrication include the metal joint pegs (figures 3 & 4) and the microscope head joint (figure 5).

For lubrication our technician recommends a silicone lubricant as shown below (figure 6).
